Fork terminals, also known as spade terminals or split ring terminals, are electrical connectors used to join wires to screws or studs. These terminals consist of a short metal tube with a flat fork attached. The tube or barrel end is where the stranded wire is inserted and crimped, while the flat fork end has a central hole for connecting to a screw or stud.

Key features of fork terminals include:

  1. Material: Made of coper.

  2. Insulation: Insulated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

  3. Electrical rating: Varies by size, ranging from 19 to 48 amps, with a voltage rating of 600 volts at 75°C

  4. Temperature range: Some types are rated for -20°C to +75°C

  5. Wire sizes: Available for various wire gauges, from 0.5mm² to 6mm²

Fork terminals are available in both insulated and non-insulated versions1. Insulated terminals are often color-coded according to the DIN 46237 standard to indicate wire size. Common colors include red, blue, and yellow.

These connectors are widely used in automotive, marine, and general electrical applications due to their ease of installation and reliable connection. They provide a solderless electrical connection, making them convenient for various wiring tasks.
